RetroGrading

Is your nostalgia warranted?

About the show

Retrograding is a bimonthly podcast where three nineties kids give adult looks to our favorite childhood movies. Tune in as we discuss details of the plot we missed as kids, give reviews as to the rewatchability of the film and the emotions it invokes, and play games that give the film a new perspective. Also, we'll try to be funny and entertaining, but honestly, no promises.

It's a late delivery of a baby movie podcast cause Karl had to move, but come experience some crazy baby science as we revisit 'Junior'. Mark only enjoyed laughing at Olympians, shows us his hairy baby, and disappears to take care of said hairy baby as Sara and Karl vamp during games; Karl also pulls a disappearing act cause Google is bad, gives Danny DeVito a new stage name, and does a perfect British accent; and Sara questions Emma Thompson's acting choices, describes her perfect Arnold, and promises a brain melt down and then delivers. All that and just so many descriptions of sequels we'd like to see. Enjoy!

Karl has nostalgia for a bygone era of animation, gives a real life analysis of power stations, remains out of touch vis-a-vis scrap yards, and shares his thoughts on Superman. Mark has a misconception about trains, removes basically the entire plot from the synopsis, can't remember the order of scenes to save his life, and gets as close as he can to a pun without technically using one. Enjoy!

We're celebrating our 3rd anniversary by having our 2nd Anniversary spectacular. You heard that right! We do what we want! Once again it's Mark vs. Sara in a battle of memory and wits! So what's different this time? Is it longer? Yes! We recorded over 5 hours of audio that Karl then had to whittle down. Are there more games? Yes! Some might even say too many. Are there more potatoes? Absolutely! Even some new ones. Is it a slightly lower quality? Yes! Cause our host server has a file size limit and even edited the audio was 3 hours long. Is it a bit late? You bet! Do you know how long it takes to edit 5 hours of audio?! Anyways, if you liked the first anniversary, this is everything that was and more! We recorded this on Feb 9th and it truly was our Super Bowl! Enjoy!

We bring some plastic toys to life this week as we revisit 'The Indian In The Cupboard'. Mark fails to have feelings on this film, reveals Karl's secret, and swears no one listens to him; Karl cannot say or spell cupboard, casually suggests a child murder, and defends the timorous; and Sara insists on discussing the book series instead of this film, gets distracted by a dog, and slowly descends into madness as her cold medicine wears off. If this ep sounds disjointed, that's cause we had to switch segments around while recording to get Sara in as much as possible, so, you know, deal with it. Enjoy!

Mark loves a shape shifting ship, shares a personal separation anxiety story, and (spoiler) can't remember why he used to like this movie. Karl buries the lead vis a vis aliens, is sure that's not how computers work, and takes umbrage with a dog competition. All that and the boys argue over how phone numbers used to work, and have a geography misunderstanding. Enjoy!

Sara shares a cannibalistic history fact, breaks down what counts as an "animal", and creates a new catch phrase. All that and just so many diversions, including Duck relations, the etymology of "Morlocks" and the laws of wishes. Enjoy!

We're going from Zero to Hero this month as we revisit Hercules. Karl fails to name any OC characters, screws up a Mark Twain pull, and does some head math, Sara explains why the unrealistic body standards are okay, says one kidnapping is fine, and falls into an internet hole. Mark is absent, so Karl and Sara fill the absence by trash talking him behind his back, and going on just so many tangents (including a Brendan Fraser podcast within this podcast).
